Описание монеты

Kyrgyzstani Som (KGS) is the official currency of the Kyrgyz Republic. It was introduced on May 10, 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble. The Som is the sole legal tender in Kyrgyzstan and is used for all transactions within the country.

The name 'Som' is derived from the Turkic word 'som,' meaning 'money.' The currency is managed by the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, which is responsible for issuing banknotes and coins, as well as maintaining price stability.

The Kyrgyzstani Som is subdivided into 100 tyiyns. However, due to inflation, tyiyns are rarely used in everyday transactions anymore. The currency exists in both banknote and coin forms.

Banknotes currently in circulation come in various denominations, including 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 Som. These notes feature national symbols, historical figures, and landmarks of Kyrgyzstan, showcasing the country's rich culture and heritage.

Coins are also issued, though their use is less common. Denominations typically include 10 and 50 tyiyns, as well as 1, 3, 5, and 10 Som. The design of the coins often reflects Kyrgyz flora and fauna.

The KGS is not a cryptocurrency or a digital asset in the traditional blockchain sense. Its inclusion in certain financial tracking platforms is often for informational purposes, indicating its status as a recognized national currency. The 'FIAT' chain designation signifies its nature as fiat money.

As a fiat currency, the value of the Kyrgyzstani Som is not backed by a physical commodity like gold or silver. Instead, its value is determined by the government that issues it and the market forces of supply and demand. The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic plays a crucial role in managing the currency's stability through monetary policy.

The economic landscape of Kyrgyzstan influences the Som's exchange rate against other major world currencies. Factors such as trade balances, inflation rates, and political stability can affect its perceived value on the international market.

While the KGS operates within a traditional financial system, awareness of its existence and characteristics is important for those engaging in economic activities related to Kyrgyzstan. This includes international trade, tourism, and remittances.

The National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic actively works to ensure the integrity of the Som, combating counterfeiting and maintaining public trust in the currency. Security features on banknotes are regularly updated to prevent forgery.

Understanding the role and nature of the Kyrgyzstani Som is essential for anyone dealing with the economy of Kyrgyzstan. It represents a fundamental aspect of the country's financial infrastructure and its connection to the global economy.
