About the coin

BNB, originally known as Binance Coin, is a cryptocurrency that powers the Binance ecosystem and plays a crucial role in various decentralized applications (dApps) and blockchain networks.

Initially launched on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token in July 2017, BNB later migrated to the Binance Chain and subsequently to the BNB Smart Chain (BSC), and is now also present on opBNB.

The primary utility of BNB is to offer discounted trading fees on the Binance exchange. Holders of BNB can use it to pay for trading fees, receiving a reduction compared to using other cryptocurrencies or fiat currency.

Beyond trading fee discounts, BNB serves as the native currency for interacting with and utilizing services on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC). This includes paying for transaction gas fees, which are required for all operations and smart contract executions on the network.

BNB is integral to the functioning of the BSC ecosystem. It is used for staking in the Proof-of-Staked-Authority (PoSA) consensus mechanism, enabling users to participate in network security and earn rewards.

The token also facilitates participation in token sales launched through the Binance Launchpad and Binance Launchpool. These platforms allow users to acquire new tokens by staking BNB.

BNB's utility extends to various dApps and services built on the BSC and other compatible networks. Users often need BNB to pay for services, in-game purchases, or other transactions within these decentralized applications.

The BNB Smart Chain (BSC) is a blockchain network designed for high performance and low transaction costs, offering a compatible environment for Ethereum-based applications. BNB is the native asset of this chain.

opBNB is a Layer-2 scaling solution built on top of BNB Smart Chain, aiming to further enhance transaction throughput and reduce costs. BNB is also utilized on this network.

The token's initial supply was 200 million coins. Binance conducts periodic token burns, where a portion of BNB is permanently removed from circulation based on trading volume and network activity. This mechanism is designed to reduce the total supply over time.

BNB's presence on multiple chains, including Ethereum (as an ERC-20 token), BNB Smart Chain, and opBNB, highlights its versatility and widespread adoption across different blockchain environments.

The BNB Smart Chain is known for its fast transaction finality and relatively low gas fees, making it an attractive platform for developers and users alike. BNB is essential for these operations.

The ecosystem supported by BNB is continuously expanding, with an increasing number of projects and dApps choosing to build on or integrate with the BNB Smart Chain and its associated networks.

BNB's role as a utility token provides tangible benefits to its holders, particularly within the Binance ecosystem and the broader BNB Chain networks.
